“APRENDER PARA ENSINAR! EIS A MISSÃO SAGRADA DA MULHER”: O IDEÁRIO EDUCATIVO DE JÚLIA LOPES DE ALMEIDA NO LIVRO DAS NOIVAS (1896)

Abstract

This work aimed to analyze Júlia Lopes de Almeida's conception of women's education, based on the analysis of texts present in the Book of Brides (1896). Along this path, we sought to identify Júlia Lopes' social place, verify the material aspects that constructed the image of the chosen manual, examining the educational texts present in that book and what aspirations the author aimed for with such writings. This is research with a documentary focus, supported by the theoretical and methodological assumptions of Cultural History, revealing the social representation of women in the transition from the Empire to the Republic, still based on the writer's place of speech, processes of sociability and discourses of power and gender. It was observed that the highlighted work was in agreement with the ideas of the period, seeking through its ideals to form the figure of women through educational texts permeated with matrimonial, domestic and maternal aspects, praising their education as a driving force of progress.
