SÍNDROME DILATAÇÃO VOLVULO-GÁTRICO EM CÃO DA RAÇA BOXER

Abstract

Gastric Dilatation Volvulus Syndrome (GDVS) is a disease with an acute evolution, characterized by the rapid accumulation of gas or fluid in the stomach associated with rotation in its mesenteric axis. Clinical signs are classic, resulting in an accurate diagnosis through clinical examination and plain radiography. Treatment is emergency, involves clinical management, but surgical intervention is essential for visceral repositioning and to prevent possible recurrences. The objective was to report a case of SDVG in order to point out the origin of the disease, detail the surgical technique applied and the pre and postoperative management of the patient. A boxer dog, weighing 35.5 kilos, was treated with abdominal distention and restlessness. During abdominal percussion, there was a tympanic sound that associated with the observations of the radiographic examination, of the thoracoabdominal region, diagnosed Volvulus-Gastric Dilatation Syndrome. For treatment, exploratory laparotomy, gastric repositioning and incisional gastropexy were recommended. It is concluded that the decisions taken were assertive, culminating in a favorable prognosis for the animal.
