dc.description.abstractBased on the socio-history and legislation of public higher education in Brazil, this work aims to demonstrate the significant changes that this stage of education has been going through to the present day. Thus, its objective is to discuss general aspects about the organization of public higher education in Brazil. Education is the duty of the State and the family, as recommended by the Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil of 1988, in its article 205. Therefore, it is important to understand which aspects of guaranteeing this duty have in fact been ensured by the State, especially in education superior, which in our country, has a meritorious character. The work is composed of bibliographical research, which led us to the analysis of the data, which are based on the survey carried out for this specifically. It is understood, therefore, regarding higher education, that many advances have been made, but we still need to improve, especially with regard to the retention of students in higher education.pt_BR
dc.description.resumoTomando por base a sócio-história e a legislação da educação superior pública no Brasil, este trabalho visa demonstrar as significativas mudanças que essa etapa da educação vem passando até os dias atuais. Assim, seu objetivo é discutir aspectos gerais sobre a organização do ensino superior público no Brasil. A educação é dever do Estado e da família, conforme preconiza a Constituição da República Federativa do Brasil de 1988, em seu artigo 205. Por isso, é importante entender que aspectos da garantia desse dever têm sido de fato assegurados pelo Estado, sobretudo na educação superior, que em nosso país, tem caráter meritório. O trabalho é composto de pesquisa bibliográfica, que nos levou à análise dos dados, os quais partem do levantamento realizado para essa finalidade. Compreende-se, portanto, no que diz respeito à educação superior, que muitos avanços foram estabelecidos, todavia ainda precisamos progredir, principalmente no que diz respeito à permanência dos estudantes no ensino superior.pt_BR
