AVALIAÇÃO DA CONFORMIDADE DAS ÁREAS DE PRESERVAÇÃO PERMANENTE DO MUNICÍPIO DE SANTA HELENA DE GOIÁS

Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the legal compliance of Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) and Legal Reserve areas declared within the scope of the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) by property owners and qualified technicians, using remote sensing through Sentinel II satellite imagery. The study area encompassed the entire municipality of Santa Helena de Goiás, where a supervised classification of the Sentinel satellite image was conducted, categorizing land uses into remnants of native vegetation and other uses. The processing and analysis yielded a 2.03% overlap between the Legal Reserve and PPAs, equivalent to 2319.9887 hectares of the total municipal area. Additionally, it was found that 50.1078% of the declared APP areas lack native vegetation, and 29.7866% of the declared Legal Reserve areas also lack native vegetation, indicating that the majority of properties in the municipality are lacking in environmental regularization. This suggests a lack of interest on the part of property owners in pursuing regularization, given the time since the implementation of CAR and the incentives provided to those who joined the environmental regularization program to restore these socially valuable areas.
