UM RECORTE DA LEI 10.639/2003 E A SUA IMPLEMENTAÇÃO NAS ESCOLAS

Abstract

The teaching of Afro-Brazilian History and culture is important, mainly, for the construction of the identity of the black people by identifying and highlighting the importance of their ancestors for the construction of society, even in a totally unfavorable context. With regard to the theme, until recently the history of the black/black people was told under the bias of the supremacy of one people over the other, highlighting the period of slavery. Thus, we perceive a highlight for the history of Afro-Brazilian culture, recognizing its contribution and importance to society, through culture, art, cuisine, habits, among others. In view of this, Law 10.639/2003 was approved, which amended the Law of Guidelines and Base of Education, making it mandatory to teach Afro-Brazilian History and Culture in Basic Education for Brazilians. In spite of such legal determination, the present research started from the hypothesis that the mentioned law is not effective, therefore, the objective of this study resides in knowing the importance and the damages that its ineffectiveness represents for the Brazilian society. Qualitative bibliographical research was carried out, with the main documents being legislation and scientific articles. The results obtained corroborate the initial hypothesis regarding the ineffectiveness of the implementation of the Law, having as main obstacles the scarcity of didactic pedagogical materials and, mainly, the lack of interest, organization and policies that contribute to the involvement of the school community.
