Abstract

This research has as initial point of investigation the possible contributions of Phonological Awareness in the process of Literacy, especially in the early years of schooling with the main objective of research demonstrate how this work can help in the literacy process and also to evidence yours contributions and investigate the relationship between phonological awareness and reading acquisition. For this, the study was researched with theoretical basis, focusing authors and researchers who have already discussed the subject both in physical experiments and in research on academic websites and digital books available on the Internet through documentary methods. The results showed that phonological awareness, reflection and manipulation about words in smaller units, is a contributing factor both in the acquisition of reading and literacy mainly when used in line with other literacy methods. It was also evident that, although many authors differ as to the form or denomination of the term, all converge at some point that makes evident the contributions of phonological awareness, currently reformulated, among other names, for metalinguistic ability, in the literacy process, the results show that the study and practice of phonological awareness is a theme that still has much to contribute to the field of literacy in the early years of schooling and needs to have many points to be clarified by future researchers interested in the theme.
