O USO DE CELULARES POR ALUNOS DO ENSINO MÉDIO

Abstract

This study was designed to examine cell phone use, a technology that is widespread, and how this technology influences high school student learning. The study aimed to examine the use of smartphones in teaching and learning. The research design used was a descriptive exploratory qualitative one. The target population of the study were 3rd year high school students and their parents and teachers from three state schools in the city of Rubiataba Goiás. 10 students, 10 parents and five teachers from each institution were selected, out of a total of 30 students, 30 parents and 15 teachers. Data were collected through questionnaires from teachers and students. Data were analyzed through results and comparative discussion with other previously published studies. The qualitative analysis of the open items of the questionnaires was considered and the inferences extracted from the respondents' opinions. The findings revealed that the cell phone has great potential as a learning tool and can be used positively for teaching and learning purposes. However, in Brazil there are laws that prohibit its use in the school premises. After the analysis, the results were presented in the form of graphs. The study generated a disparity of opinions between students and parents with their teachers, and what was noticed is that students and teachers from one of the institutions that is run by the military are more resistant to the use of smartphones. We conclude that we have generated some useful data for teachers and students to use for policy recommendations. Keywords: Smartphone, Learning; Classroom.
