IRRIGAÇÃO AUTOMÁTICA E ECONÔMICA EM UMA HORTA ESCOLAR NO MUNICÍPIO DE URUTAÍ – GOIÁS: ESTUDO DE CASO

Abstract

From the growing demand for water use, there is an urgent need to use water resources in an increasingly responsible way. In this sense, it is essential that there are actions that insert society in a process aimed at environmental education directed towards a sustainable path. Among such actions, we highlight the practice of building vegetable gardens in a school environment. This action is known for, collectively, intervening in agricultural practices in order to build social values, knowledge and skills that are aimed at preserving the environment. Therefore, this case study describes the extension project "Automatic and Economic Irrigation in a School Garden in the Municipality of Urutaí - GO" that was carried out from the reactivation of the garden in the Municipal School of 1º Grau Maria Cândida de Jesus, in the city of of Urutaí-GO, with a low-cost automated micro-sprinkler irrigation system being implemented. The project had the social purpose of arousing the interest of the community involved, especially students who were already involvedwith the field, as the method used optimizes manpower and time. With the implementation of the vegetable garden, the following vegetables were cultivated: lettuce, cabbage, leaf onion, parsley, carrot, beetroot, pepper, radish, okra and eggplant. All production was destined for school lunch. The project benefited the school, as a trainer of citizens, who received lectures onenvironmental education, irrigation system, management and diversified ways of using vegetables; children who were invited to participate in the planting of vegetables, promoting adidactic-pedagogical interaction with the environment. In addition to having been an enrichingexperience for the students involved in the Agricultural Engineering course at Instituto FederalGoiano – Campus Urutaí.
