MONITORAMENTO DA IMUNIZAÇÃO NAS REGIÕES BRASILEIRAS NO PERÍODO DE 2014 A 2018

Abstract

Vaccination is an effective method of immunization that allowed people to control many diseases, capable of eradicating entire societies. The emergency of the National Immunization Program (NIP) in 1973 and the implementation of vaccination campaigns, as well as actions aimed at encouraging adherence to immunization, have successfully promoted the eradication of diseases in Brazil. The objective of this study was to describe the monitoring of vaccination coverage in the five Brazilian regions for Measles, Yellow Fever, Influenza, and Poliomyelitis vaccines. A retrospective and descriptive study was carried out from the secondary database of DataSus, of vaccine coverage in the five Brazilian regions between the years 2014 to 2018. Data were collected from the National Immunization Program Information System (SI-NIP) database and from Tabnet – DATASUS. Brazil follows the NIP, and acts according to the Brazilian National Vaccination Calendar, a universal immunization model, which contemplates all Brazilians. However, as can be noted in the results of this study, the vaccination coverage (VC) for some diseases is not uniform. Moreover, as of the year 2016, there has been a decline in the Brazilian VC due to non-acceptance by the population. It is found that immunizations in the Brazilian regions vary considerably among immunizers. It is clear that the goals established in immunization programs have not been fully contemplated, and that initiatives are needed that aim to inform the population and future generations about the importance, efficiency, and safety of vaccines.
