MÃOS QUE ESCREVEM O TERRITÓRIO, ESCREVEM A VIDA: O TRABALHADOR MIGRANTE NORDESTINO EM RIO VERDE, GOIÁS

Abstract

One of the main characteristics of the demographic formation in the state of Goiás is the migration of workers from all over Brazil who arrive after the 1930s based on the guidelines of the "March to the West". Towards the municipality of Rio Verde, the migration took place mainly after the expansion of the agricultural frontier, in the 1970s, with the arrival of southerners in the country. Twenty years later, starting in the late 1980s, the arrival of the Northeasterners began to be attracted by the job opportunities that arose with the growth of the agro-industrial sector in the city and region. This research calls for a materialistic historical-dialectical understanding, attentive and sensitive about the invisible subject that is at the base of the socio-territorial structure that sustains the economic growth of the so-called “agribusiness capital”, the Worker of the Northeast. From the experience of the political and economic model of the city of Rio Verde, combined with the sharpness in analyzing the most afflicted and deserving of attention, the object of study of this thesis is born. It deals with the contradictory Social Representation that the Northeastern Migrant Worker has over the city of monopoly capitalist agriculture in Rio Verde, Goiás. In order to welcome the voice of the invisible northeastern migrant worker and unclog the social representation that he has, the research was woven with a qualitative and quantitative methodological itinerary throughout the four chapters. First, the formation of Goiás and Rio Verde is discussed in relation to migration in search of jobs and income in a territory understood as a “pesticide city” due to socio-environmental aggression. In the second chapter, there is the northeastern Rio Verde formed by the hands that migrate to work and that weave the important Social-Affective Migration Network. In the last two chapters, the tone of the discussion is raised and with the use of Life Charts and Geophotographs, the study of Social Representations is directed. Through these narratives, it was possible to understand the cloudy and contradictory faces of the northeastern migrant worker thinking about the city of Rio Verde. Finally, by welcoming the voice of these men and women workers, it is hoped to increase the visibility of the group and assist in the emancipation of the subject to the extent that he can question his past in the Northeast, the present in Rio Verde and envision a dignified and fair future for their people in the society in which they live.
