dc.description.abstractThe use of mineral compounds in agriculture has emerged as a promising strategy to increase crop productivity and sustainability. Many mineral compounds, although not considered fertilizers, stimulate natural processes by providing essential nutrients that participate in various physiological and growth processes, and even improve water use efficiency, tolerance to abiotic stresses, and crop quality. This thesis aimed to evaluate the effects of silicon and zinc fertilization on growth, development, and yield of corn (Zea mays L., grown in Cerrado Red Latosol). Two experiments were carried out in open-air pots using a randomized block design with five doses (0, 25, 50, 100, and 200 kg/ha⁻¹) of potassium silicate and zinc sulfate, respectively, and four replicates. The variables evaluated included morphological, physiological, and productive parameters namely, plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width, leaf area, leaf mass, stem mass, SPAD index, NDVI index, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll and chlorophyll a/b. The productive components evaluated were straw mass, ear mass, cob mass, ear length, ear diameter, cob diameter, number of rows of grains in the ear, number of grains per row and the mass of 50 grains. In the first experiment, the silicon aplication provided significant increases in plant height, stem diameter, leaf area, chlorophyll content (SPAD and NDVI indices), mass of vegetative organs and ear components, with emphasis on the maximum productivity of 5582.44 kg ha⁻¹ at the dose of 118.31%. The response was predominantly quadratic, indicating an optimum application point for most variables. In the second experiment, zinc also positively influenced the variables studied, especially at intermediate doses. The best results occurred between 100% and 140% of the standard dose, with maximum productivity of 4946.30 kg ha⁻¹ at the dose of 135.56%. Both mineral compounds demonstrated potential to improve the agronomic performance of corn, with silicon being more effective in structural attributes and zinc being more associated with enzymatic metabolism and leaf pigmentation. The data reinforces the importance of rational nutritional management and the need to define adequate application ranges to maximize positive effects and avoid losses due to excess.pt_BR
dc.description.resumoO uso de compostos minerais na agricultura tem se destacado como estratégia promissora para aumentar a produtividade e a sustentabilidade das culturas. Muitos compostos minerais, embora não sejam considerados fertilizantes, estimulam processos naturais por fornecerem nutrientes essenciais que vão participar dos diversos processos fisiológicos e de crescimento e até mesmo, melhorando a eficiência no uso da água, a tolerância a estresses abióticos e a qualidade das colheitas. Esta tese teve como objetivo avaliar os efeitos da adubação com silício e zinco sobre o crescimento, desenvolvimento e rendimento do milho (Zea mays L., cultivado em Latossolo Vermelho do Cerrado. Foram conduzidos dois experimentos, a céu aberto, em vasos, utilizando delineamento em blocos ao acaso com cinco doses (0, 25, 50, 100 e 200 Kg/ ha⁻¹) de silicato de potássio e de sulfato de zinco, respectivamente, e quatro repetições. As variáveis avaliadas incluíram parâmetros morfológicos, fisiológicos e produtivos, a saber, a altura de planta, diâmetro de colmo, número de folhas, comprimento de folha, largura de folha, área foliar, massa de folha, massa de colmo, índice SPAD, índice NDVI, clorofila a, clorofila b, índice Falker de clorofila total e clorofila a/b. Os componentes produtivos avaliadas foram massa de palha, massa de espiga, massa de sabugo, comprimento de espiga, diâmetro de espiga, diâmetro de sabugo, número de fileiras de grãos da espiga, número de grãos por fileira e a massa de 50 grãos. No primeiro experimento, a aplicação de silício proporcionou incrementos significativos na altura de plantas, diâmetro de colmo, área foliar, teor de clorofila (índices SPAD e NDVI), massa de órgãos vegetativos e componentes da espiga, com destaque para a produtividade máxima de 5582,44 kg ha⁻¹ na dose de 118,31%. A resposta foi predominantemente quadrática, indicando ponto ótimo de aplicação para a maioria das variáveis. No segundo experimento, o zinco também influenciou positivamente as variáveis estudadas, especialmente em doses intermediárias. Os melhores resultados ocorreram entre 100% e 140% da dose padrão, com produtividade máxima de 4946,30 kg ha⁻¹ na dose de 135,56%. Ambos os compostos minerais demonstraram potencial para melhorar o desempenho agronômico do milho, sendo o silício mais efetivo em atributos estruturais e o zinco mais associado ao metabolismo enzimático e pigmentação foliar. Os dados reforçam a importância do manejo nutricional racional e a necessidade de definir faixas tu adequadas de aplicação para maximizar os efeitos positivos e evitar perdas por excesso.pt_BR
