SITUAÇÃO E PERSPECTIVAS DA POLÍTICA AMBIENTAL BRASILEIRA ANTE O DESAFIO DA COVID-19

Abstract

Despite the broad scope of Brazil's environmental policy, recent political and legal events have prevailed over environmental protection, generating great concern, especially in this period when the challenge of the pressures imposed by Covid-19 has monopolized attention. Since the pandemic began in Brazil, there have been records of deforestation and burning, following a series of proposals and significant changes in the structure of environmental governance, especially within the Ministry of the Environment, facts that provoke deep reflection on the direction of this policy in Brazil. In view of this, using the hypothetical-deductive method and the technique of Prospecting Texts, a theoretical reference was constructed with the objective of presenting an impartial approach of such facts, of the recent proposals and current treaties pertinent to environmental protection and to subsidize objective conclusions about a possible policy of loosening of the rules and of a paradigm change in environmental protection and of the possible post-Pandemic environmental sequelae, in the light of an updated and contextualized study of the Brazilian environmental policy (especially in the scope of Law No. 12. 651/2012 and the Environmental Regularization Program) and current events, contributing in a pragmatic way to the most relevant timeless discussion: the environmental sustainability.
