HEMILAMINECTOMIA PARA DESCOMPRESSÃO MEDULAR CAUSADA POR NEOPLASIA INFILTRATIVA

Abstract

The feline leukemia (FeLV) is one of the main retroviral diseases that affects cats worldwide. It is an infectious disease, transmitted by the Feline Leukemia Virus, which is generally conveyed by the contact of the contaminated saliva, by the habit of licking or sharing sources of water and food. The prevention of the disease is done with the use of vaccines, in which the use is recommended only for cats at risk of exposure. Is known that the feline leukemia has an oncogenic potential, with 96% of the casuistry being lymphoma. The purpose of the report, is depict an hemilaminectomy surgical procedure for spinal decompression, in a female feline, of the Himalayan breed, 5 years old and weighting 5,2kg, which was diagnosed with FeLV. From the start, the animal was presenting pelvic limb paresis, in which imaging exams showed the presence of an infiltrative neoplasia in the spinal cord. It was concluded that the viable treatment for the animal was the removal of the tumoral mass, however, after the vertebrae opening, was verified that the tumor was positioned intramedullary and your removal was unable, instead, a decompression maneuver is then performed to ensure better health quality for the patient. The procedure was successful in its function, causing the animal to stop feeling pain, and also allowed that a part of the pelvic limbs movements had been restored.
