Abstract
The Brazilian sugarcane industry is fundamental for the country's agricultural growth and a leader in renewable energy generation. This paper carried out a literature review to assess the potential utilization of by-products, emphasizing economic and environmental aspects. It aimed to enhance efficiency and the diversification of revenue sources and promote the sector sustainability. The potential of vinasse in the generation of biogas and green hydrogen was investigated with a systematic literature review. The results indicated that vinasse and sugarcane bagasse are valuable renewable energy sources, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The research suggests the need to invest in new technologies and public policies to maximize the waste utilization, emphasizing the importance of mechanized harvesting and the elimination of straw burning. It was concluded that the future of the sector depends on an integrated approach combining technological innovation, effective policies, and investments in renewable energy to ensure sustainable and responsible development.
