Abstract: Fixation is a fundamental step in plant anatomy, with its main function being to halt cellular metabolism and preserve the structural integrity and chemical composition of tissues as close as possible to their in vivo state. The choice of fixative agent is a determining factor in sample preparation, as different solutions interact differently with biomolecules, potentially affecting the retention of specific metabolites and the formation of artifacts. In this context, this project analyzes whether different histological fixatives interfere with the results of histochemical tests in the colleters of Genipa americana (Rubiaceae). The study compares the efficacy of two fixatives — FAA50 and Buffered Neutral Formalin (BNF) — in preserving the structural and histochemical composition of colleter secretions. The plant samples were collected, fixed, dehydrated, embedded in resin, and subjected to histochemical tests for the identification of polysaccharides, proteins, and phenolic compounds. The slides were mounted, analyzed, and photographed. The colleters of G. americana occur on the inner surface of the stipules and are of the standard type. Neutral polysaccharides, pectins, acidic mucopolysaccharides, and proteins were observed in the secretion. We found that the choice of fixative affects the preservation of cellular structures and the staining of histochemical test results. The results also demonstrated that FNT performed better in cell preservation, while the FAA stood out for enhancing staining. Thus, this work enriches the field of plant anatomy by showing that the type of fixative should be a strategic choice aligned with the study's requirements.

Abstract: Soil contamination by toxic elements represents an increasing environmental concern, with cadmium (Cd) standing out due to its high toxicity, elevated mobility, and ease of uptake by plants. This metal is introduced into the environment mainly through anthropogenic activities, such as the use of phosphate fertilizers and the improper disposal of waste, where it can bioaccumulate within the food chain and pose environmental and human health risks even at low concentrations. In plants, Cd induces morphological, physiological, and anatomical alterations, including impairment of photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal function, and, consequently, plant growth and development. Although several studies have investigated the morphophysiological effects of Cd on sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.), information regarding the anatomical responses of this species to Cd contamination remains limited. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the anatomical changes in sunflower leaves exposed to different Cd concentrations. The experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions using three Cd concentrations (2.5, 5.0, and 7.5 mg dm⁻³), in addition to a control treatment, applied as CdCl₂, with five replicates per treatment. Sixty days after germination, samples from the median region of fully expanded leaves were collected, fixed, and processed for microscopic analyses. Control plants exhibited the typical leaf structure, consisting of a uniseriate epidermis with stomata and trichomes on both leaf surfaces, a dorsiventral mesophyll, and vascular bundles. Exposure to Cd resulted in progressive, concentration dependent anatomical alterations, including epidermal collapse, elongation and disorganization of mesophyll cells, enlargement of intercellular spaces, and severe structural deformation at the highest Cd concentrations. It is concluded that Cd causes significant anatomical damage to sunflower leaves, even at relatively low concentrations, demonstrating the high structural sensitivity of this species to Cd exposure. Furthermore, the findings highlight the importance of plant anatomy as a bioindicator tool for assessing the ecotoxicity of potentially toxic elements, including Cd.

Abstract: Memes are versatile tools that can be used in various disciplines, as they cover a wide range of
themes. The term “meme” was initially created and used by biologist Richard Dawkins to
designate a unit of cultural information, in analogy to the gene. This work is part of an activity
developed within the scope of the Pedagogical Residency project of the Instituto Federal
Goiano – Campus Urutaí and was carried out in public schools, namely Colégio Estadual Maria
Benedita Velozo located in the city of Orizona/GO and Colégio Estadual Rodrigo Rodrigues
da Cunha located in the city of Pires do Rio/GO in the years 2021 and 2022. Throughout the
development of the project, a significant behavioral change among students was observed,
since, through the tools available on the internet, it was possible to promote interaction between
student-teacher and student-student within the virtual environment. The use of an innovative
tool contributed to breaking a traditional teaching trend, allowing students to learn in a more
dynamic and enjoyable way. It is concluded that the use of memes in the classroom fosters
meaningful learning.

Abstract: Acoustic communication is crucial for the reproduction and behavior of anuran amphibians. This study investigated the daily and seasonal vocal activity patterns of Rhinella diptycha and Physalaemus cuvieri in the Cerrado, as well as the influence of air temperature and relative humidity on their occurrence. Using passive acoustic monitoring between January 2021 and January 2022 in the Aporé-GO area, a Cerrado-Atlantic Forest transition zone, nocturnal recordings were analyzed using circular statistics and logistic regression models. The results revealed distinct patterns: P. cuvieri exhibited vocal activity concentrated in the summer (January-February), with a consistent peak around 22:00 h. In contrast, R. diptycha showed greater plasticity, with peak activity between August and October and a progressive shift in peak time (from 20:44 to 22:39 h). The probability of vocalization for P. cuvieri increased significantly with temperature (β = 0.043; p < 0.001) and humidity (β = 0.053; p < 0.001), a pattern consistent with a dependence on humid conditions. Conversely, R. diptycha showed a response to temperature three times stronger (β = 0.125; p < 0.001) but a negative relationship with humidity (β = -0.050; p < 0.001), reflecting its morphological adaptations for tolerance to drier environments. It is concluded that the species possess distinct phenological and physiological strategies, with P. cuvieri being more dependent on humid conditions and R. diptycha more tolerant to drought. These differences imply distinct vulnerabilities to climate change, with P. cuvieri being potentially more threatened by alterations in precipitation regimes.
