Abstract: There are many methods for environmental assessment contributing to maintain ecosystem services, enabling more sustainable use of natural resources and reducing environmental problems. Landscape Unit (LU) Assessment Method stands out among different ones, which is a product of the official Environmental and Productive Zoning (ZAP, Brazilian acronym) manual from Minas Gerais State, a tool designed to develop and monitor economic, social, and environmental management plans. However, the subjectivity in delimitating these units emerges as a challenge, potentially compromising the results accuracy and the environmental analyses effectiveness. Therefore, this paper focuses on delimitating the Landscape Units by geomorphological parameters basing on terrain shape variables (horizontal and vertical curvature), slope, and edaphic characteristics to assist in soil vulnerability and suitability analyses in the VerdinhoRiver watershed. These data were analyzed and considered to generate a detailed classification of Landscape Units, enabling to identify zones with geomorphological and soil characteristics; finally allowing analyzing the units according to their uniqueness in relatively homogeneous natural aspects. The results indicate that the proposed methodology helped to reduce subjectivity in unit definition, making the process more replicable and coherent. Furthermore, the delimited units show a direct relationship with different levels of soil vulnerability and suitability, contributing to more efficient territorial planning. It is concluded that the adopted approach may support future studies, contributing to identify priority areas for conservation and sustainable use. The integration of geospatial technologies proved to be an effective tool for delimiting the Landscape Units, providing greater accuracy in environmental analysis and decision-making support.

Abstract: The growing concern with sustainability in the construction industry has driven to research aimed at replacing conventional materials by alternatives that have a lower environmental impact. In this context, the present study evaluated the performance of rendering mortars with partial replacement of Portland cement by bamboo biochar and river sand by manufactured sand derived from crushed stone dust. Five experimental mixes were produced, with gradual substitutions of cement by biochar and natural sand by manufactured sand at levels of 0%, 3%, 5%, 7%, and 10%. The tests performed included compressive strength, bond strength, and capillary water absorption. A systematic literature review revealed that incorporating biochar between 1% and 5% can improve the mechanical strength of mortars. Microstructural analyses indicated an increase in hydration products formation, contributing to the improvement in mechanical performance. Experimental results confirmed that replacing up to 5% of the cement by biochar leads to significant gains in compressive strength and adhesion, while maintaining satisfactory performance in terms of capillary absorption. On the other hand, mixes with substitutions above 7% showed a reduction in mechanical performance. Regarding the fine aggregate, manufactured sand demonstrated technical performance compatible with that of natural sand, proving to be a viable and sustainable alternative. It is concluded that combining biochar and manufactured sand, in appropriate proportions, can contribute to the development of more sustainable construction materials without compromising essential properties such as mechanical strength and durability.

Abstract: Land use and occupation correspond to how the territory is used, transformed, and organized
by human activities. The study of this dynamic relates to the functions assigned to different
areas and the physical characteristics of the interventions carried out, which directly affect the
energy balance on the Earth's surface. Changes in land use and occupation reduce the capacity
for heat dissipation and increase the absorption of solar radiation, resulting in an increase in
surface temperature. This work aims to evaluate the evolution of land use and occupation in the
municipality of Mineiros (GO) in recent decades and analyze its impacts on surface
temperature. For this purpose, images from the MapBiomas project were used to delineate land
use and occupation classes, and data from the thermal bands of Landsat satellites were used to
obtain surface temperature information. The results demonstrate that government policies have
significantly influenced landscape transformations, stimulating the expansion of agricultural
and livestock activities at the expense of native vegetation. The suppression of this natural
cover, combined with soil exposure and the intensification of agricultural use, contributes to
the significant increase in surface temperature in the municipality.

Abstract: This systematic review investigates the influence of structural walls on the global
stability of reinforced concrete buildings with asymmetric frames subjected to
lateral static loads. Eleven studies were analyzed following a rigorous
methodological protocol based on the PRISMA framework. The results show that
structural walls absorb over 75% of the shear forces in lower stories, acting as key
elements for enhancing lateral stiffness. Wall positioning was found to be
decisive: central-core configurations exhibited higher reliability indices for
serviceability (β = 6.98–7.67), while peripheral arrangements favored ultimate
resistance. Beam–wall connection eccentricity proved critical, increasing lateral
displacements by up to 23.72% for 0.50 m offsets. Wall thicknesses between 200
mm and 300 mm showed optimal performance, with diminishing stiffness gains
beyond this range. The study concludes that the proper consideration of wall
positioning, dimensioning, and detailing is essential to ensure global stability in
buildings with asymmetric frames. Keywords: Structural walls; global stability;
asymmetric frames; systematic review; lateral loads.
