Abstract: The research focused on carrying out a socio-environmental diagnosis of selective collection at the Silva Dourado State School, located in Arraias-TO. The diagnosis was carried out with students from the 6th to 9th grades to assess whether they had any prior knowledge about the topic of selective collection and its importance. To this end, a questionnaire containing 10 questions was used, applied to the students of the rural school. Inspections were carried out at the school to verify whether there were any actions regarding selective collection in progress. Afterwards, the students were given an explanatory lecture on what selective collection is and its benefits. During the lecture, the proper disposal of waste in each collector was explained, according to standardized colors, and any doubts the students had were answered. On the same day, waste collectors donated by the company Itafos Arraias Mineração e Fertilizantes S.A. were installed for the school, aiming at the selective collection of the garbage produced. Three months after the implementation of selective collection at the school, a new diagnosis was carried out to compare the students' acceptability and understanding of the topic. During the research, the use or non-use of the collectors was also inspected, as well as their correct use by the students. Thus, in the evaluation carried out, it was found that the students already had knowledge about selective collection, which led them to obtain better grades in the evaluation results. The result was the correct separation of waste in the school collectors, both in the external and internal areas of the classrooms.
