Abstract: Weed management is one of the main challenges in tropical agricultural production, causing significant yield losses when not carried out within the critical interference period. The use of adjuvants in herbicide spray solutions is a strategy to enhance active ingredient efficacy, and wood vinegar (pyroligneous acid), a by-product of charcoal production, presents acidic physicochemical properties as pH, organic acids and phenolic compounds that qualify it as a natural adjuvant for post-emergence herbicides.
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the association and concentration of wood vinegar on the efficacy of glyphosate (1,440 g a.e. ha⁻¹) and 2,4-D (670 g a.e. ha⁻¹) for weed control under field conditions in Araguatins, Tocantins, Brazil, between June and July 2026. A randomized complete block design was used, with eight treatments and four replicates. Herbicide efficacy was monitored through the VARI and TGI vegetation indices, extracted from RGB drone orthomosaics across seven assessment dates from 0 to 22 days after application (DAA), complemented by phytotoxicity ratings using the EWRC scale and a baseline phytosociological survey of the weed community.
Wood vinegar combined with glyphosate did not enhance the efficacy of that herbicide, with similar performance observed among treatments with adjuvant at 2% and 4% v/v and glyphosate alone, which produced the greatest reduction in vegetation indices among all treatments evaluated. In contrast, combining wood vinegar with 2,4-D reduced herbicide efficacy in a dose-dependent manner, with the highest adjuvant level rendering the treatment equivalent to the untreated control, indicating an antagonistic effect possibly related to physicochemical incompatibility between the strongly acidic adjuvant and the amine-salt herbicide formulation. Wood vinegar applied alone showed no detectable herbicidal activity. The results indicate that the benefit of wood vinegar as an adjuvant depends of the associated herbicide, being neutral for glyphosate and antagonistic for 2,4-D under the evaluated conditions, which calls for caution against its generalized recommendation.

Abstract: Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) stands out among the world’s major food crops due to its economic and nutritional importance. However, its productivity and commercial quality may be compromised by bacterial diseases, especially soft rot and blackleg, caused by bacteria of the genera Pectobacterium spp. and Dickeya spp. In this context, the use of rhizobacteria represents a promising alternative for the biological management of these diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of rhobacteria isolated from Cerrado areas in the control of soft rot and blackleg in potato crops. The experiment was conducted under field conditions, using central pivot irrigation, at Wehrmann Farm, located in Cristalina, Goiás, Brazil. The experimental design consisted of randomized blocks with five treatments and six replications, totaling 30 experimental plots. The treatments consisted of: untreated control, application of bacterial isolates LFB1, LFB7 E LFB11, and application of the commercial product Certano. The bacteria used belong to the culture collection of the Laboratory of Phytopathology and Agricultural Microbiology of the Federal Goiano Institute and were previously evaluated in vitro against Pectobacterium spp. and Dickeya spp. Bacterial suspensions were standardized at a concentration of 10⁸ CFU mL⁻¹ and applied by spraying onto seed tubers at planting. Blackleg severity, soft rot incidence, number of stems per plant, commercial classification, and tuber yield were evaluated. Data were subjected to analysis of variance, and treatment means were compared using Tukey’s test at 5% probability. No statistically significant differences were observed among treatments for the evaluated variables. However, relevant numerical variations were observed: treatment with LFB 1 showed lower blackleg severity and lower soft rot incidence, whereas treatment with LFB11 presented a higher number of stems and greater average tuber yield. It was concluded that, although the treatments did not differ statistically, the evaluated bacterial isolates showed promising potential for further studies focused on the biological management of bacterial diseases and growth promotion in potato crop

Abstract: Lamb's ear (Stachys byzantina K. Koch) is a Non-Conventional Edible Plants that has attracted increasing interest due to its nutritional, functional, and medicinal potential, associated with the presence of essential nutrients and bioactive compounds with high antioxidant activity. Among the environmental factors that influence plant quality, light plays a fundamental role in regulating growth, photosynthesis, and the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, potentially promoting an increase in the production of phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and other antioxidant substances of interest for food and human health. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the development of Stachys byzantina cultivated under controlled environment and exposed to different light spectra, as well as to investigate the effects of these spectra on physiological, morphological, and chemical characteristics of the species. The results showed that light spectral quality significantly influences photosynthetic performance and plant metabolism, promoting distinct responses among treatments and showing potential to modulate the synthesis of bioactive compounds. In general, the use of artificial lighting in indoor cultivation systems proved to be a promising strategy to optimize the production and quality of Stachys byzantina, favoring not only its growth but also the obtaining of products with higher functional and antioxidant value. Thus, the study contributes to the valorization of Non-Conventional Edible Plants and expands the prospects of its use as a functional food and a source of bioactive compounds for different applications.

Abstract: Corn is the world’s leading cereal crop in terms of cultivation and includes several specialty varieties, among which sweet corn stands out due to its high market potential. The corn stunt disease complex is one of the major challenges affecting this crop and can be classified into red stunt and pale yellow stunt, both of which cause significant yield losses. These are systemic diseases caused by mollicutes that invade and colonize the vascular tissues, reducing the growth and reproductive capacity of affected plants. Therefore, the adoption of integrated disease management practices is essential to improve crop quality. The present study aimed to evaluate the influence of micronutrient management on the corn stunt disease complex in sweet corn (Zea mays L.), seeking to reduce disease-related losses. The experiment was conducted in Morrinhos, Goiás, Brazil, from March to June 2025 under center-pivot irrigation. The sweet corn hybrid used was GSS0227, and the nutrients were supplied through the commercial products Dueto (77.7 g L⁻¹ Mn and 77.7 g L⁻¹ Zn), Boro Pro (130 g L⁻¹ B), and Buddy (47.25 g L⁻¹ Cu). Eight treatments were evaluated, consisting of the products applied individually, in combination, and an untreated control. Two applications were carried out for each treatment in association with the grower’s conventional management practices. The evaluated variables were Total Weight, Ear Weight, Grain Weight, Soluble Solids (°Brix), and Total Chlorophyll. The results showed no statistically significant differences among treatments for any of the evaluated variables. Therefore, the application of micronutrients was not directly associated with reducing the damage caused by the corn stunt disease complex in sweet corn plants.
