Abstract: Cotton cultivation has high economic importance in Brazil and is frequently affected by insect
pests that compromise productivity, especially the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda,
due to its high damage potential and wide adaptive capacity. This study aimed to evaluate the
efficacy of cotton biotechnologies against Spodoptera frugiperda in the western region of
Bahia. The bioassays were conducted at Instituto Federal Goiano – Campus Posse, under
laboratory conditions, using both field and susceptible reference populations. Newly hatched
larvae up to 24 hours old were exposed to leaves and bolls of Bacillus thuringiensis cotton
and conventional cotton. Larval survival and mortality were evaluated throughout the
exposure period, resulting in high efficiency of the transgenic cultivars, with a progressive
increase in larval mortality over time. It is concluded that the evaluated technologies are
effective in controlling the pest, contributing to the reduction of crop damage; however, the
adoption of resistance management strategies, combined with continuous population
monitoring, is essential to ensure the durability of these technologies and the sustainability of
the production system

Abstract: The application of nanoparticles in agriculture has been investigated as a strategy to optimize
nutritional efficiency and mitigate stress in economically important crops. In soybean (Glycine
max L.), zinc oxide (ZnO) and iron oxide (Fe₂O₃) nanoparticles have been associated with both
beneficial effects and phytotoxic responses, depending on experimental conditions. This study
consisted of a scoping review, conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines
and reported following the PRISMA-ScR checklist, with a protocol registered on the Open
Science Framework (DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/BYDSJ). The search was performed in Web of
Science, Scopus, and the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD),
resulting in 275 records, of which 29 studies fully met the eligibility criteria based on the PCC
strategy. The analysis showed that the effects of nanoparticles are predominantly dose dependent. At low to moderate concentrations, increases in biomass, photosynthetic activity,
modulation of the antioxidant system, and productivity gains were observed. In contrast, high
doses were associated with oxidative stress, reduction of photosynthetic pigments, impairment
of biological nitrogen fixation, and reproductive damage. The transition between adaptive
response and phytotoxicity was mainly conditioned by dose, application route, and
physicochemical properties of the nanoparticles. Based on the findings, integrated criteria are
proposed to differentiate nutritional effects from stress-inducing effects, contributing to a more
consistent interpretation of the literature and to the rational use of these nanomaterials in
soybean cultivation.

Abstract: Pastures are the basis of Brazilian livestock feed, requiring appropriate management methods to
establish quality pastures. Seed coating is an important technique in the forage seed production
process, a technology aimed at improving physical quality, facilitating sowing, and adding
commercial value to seeds. This study aimed to evaluate different materials used for coating seeds
of two forage cultivars (Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu and Urochloa brizantha × Urochloa
ruziziensis cv. Convert 330), considering physical and visual aspects, dissolution, seedling
emergence, and cost. The experiment was conducted at the Seed Technology Laboratory of
Barenbrug do Brasil, in a 2 × 6 factorial design with three replications, consisting of two cultivars
and six mixtures of inert coating materials: attapulgite + dolomite, bentonite, bentonite + dolomite,
dolomite, wheat flour + dolomite, and sweet potato starch + dolomite. The following were
evaluated: incrustation factor, particle size sieving, visual score, color, water dissolution, seedling
emergence, and cost. The dolomite-based treatments showed better physical uniformity, higher
visual score, and better color. Bentonite, alone or in combination with dolomite, provided high
dissolution and good physical performance. The treatments containing isolated dolomite showed
low dissolution, resulting in lower seedling emergence. It can be concluded that the choice of inert
material directly influences the physical and physiological quality of coated seeds, with mixtures
containing bentonite and dolomite being the most balanced in terms of quality and performance

Abstract: Lactuca sativa is one of the most cultivated and consumed leafy vegetables in Brazil,
standing out for its high nutritional value and wide market acceptance. However,
conventional cultivation requires intensive use of chemical fertilizers, which may cause
environmental impacts and increase production costs. In this context, the use of
effective microorganisms (EM) emerges as a sustainable alternative, promoting
improvements in soil fertility and plant development. The present study aimed to
evaluate the effect of applying effective microorganisms on the growth of lettuce. The
experiment was conducted at the Instituto Federal Goiano – Campus Morrinhos in a
completely randomized design, with four treatments and four replications. The
treatments consisted of: T1 (control, without application), T2 (one application), T3 (two
applications), and T4 (three EM applications). The variables evaluated were plant
height, number of marketable leaves, number of damaged leaves, fresh mass, and shoot
dry mass. Data were subjected to analysis of variance, and means were compared using
Tukey’s test at 5% probability. The results showed no statistically significant
differences for most of the analyzed variables. However, a significant effect was
observed for the number of marketable leaves, with emphasis on the treatment with one
EM application. It is concluded that the application of effective microorganisms
positively influenced an important qualitative attribute of the crop, although it did not
significantly increase overall productivity.
