Autor(es): Paiva, Patricia Oliveira Primeiro Orientador: Silva, Estevão Alves da Abstract: Plants with extrafloral nectaries possess glands that produce nectar outside the flowers, attracting ants that act as “bodyguards” against herbivores. Although this type of interaction has been widely studied, there are still gaps in records regarding its geographic distribution, as well as regions that are over-represented. This study aimed to understand why the Cerrado appears so frequently in research on interactions between ants and plants with extrafloral nectaries in Brazil. According to our hypothesis, this pattern is due to the greater number of researchers affiliated with institutions in the Cerrado and the preference for conducting research in this biome. Following and adapting the PRISMA protocol for conducting systematic research, we filtered and analyzed 144 articles published since 1979, which showed that studies on plants with extrafloral nectaries (interacting with ants) were conducted in 58 different municipalities. The Cerrado consistently stood out as the most studied biome both in number of publications (69%), locations where plants were sampled (60% of the municipalities), and consequently in species richness (39% of the flora). Furthermore, most researchers affiliated with institutions within the biome conducted studies locally, reinforcing the representativeness of the biome in relation to plants with extrafloral nectaries. The distribution of studies within the Cerrado was highly uneven, with some locations being significantly more studied than others. The data reveal that the prominence of the Cerrado in scientific records reflects more the geographic concentration of investments and research efforts than, necessarily, a real biological difference in the occurrence of plants with extrafloral nectaries. This scenario highlights the need to direct scientific attention toward historically under-sampled biomes. By decentralizing sampling and academic efforts, we not only reduce spatial biases, but also build a broader, more representative, and more accurate understanding of the diversity of ecological interactions throughout the Brazilian territory with this functional group of plants. This study contributes to the achievement of the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 6 (Drinking Water and Sanitation) and for the dissemination and promotion of the 2030 Agenda. For the purposes of discussion, the analyzed parameters had their values compared to CONAMA Resolution 357/2005 (CONAMA, 2005) for sweet waters class 2, as well as Ordinance GM/MS no. 888/2021 of the Ministry of Health. It was found to be necessary, through municipal and state environmental bodies, policies of land use and occupation in order to obtain quality water for current and future generations. In the experimental conditions and according to the results obtained, it was concluded that the waters of the Muquém stream show signs of pollution, and its water treatment for consumption is necessary. It is important that there is a balance between urbanization and preservation, for which the implementation of effective environmental zoning and investment in public sanitation are recommended. Continue monitoring water quality in the microbasin of the Muquém stream is of paramount importance to identify any changes in water quality and take appropriate measures to mitigate negative impacts. The study was carried in the Rio do Peixe, located in the Santo Antônio da Esperança District, over a 13,4 km. The result was a Conclusive Technical Report containing detailed analyses of the physical, chemical, biological and microbiological parameters of the water. This report will support decision-making by the Secretariat for the Environment and Water Resources, promoting management and conservation measures for the Rio do Peixe. The results will not only contribute to scientific advancement, but will also have a direct practical impact, generating information for local environmental management, promoting the conservation of water resources and the sustainability of the Cerrado biome, benefiting both the environment and local communities. The methodology combined field visits, georeferencing, and remote sensing and geoprocessing techniques, allowing the characterization of the main vegetation formations and the monitoring of their temporal dynamics. The material is applicable in various contexts, ranging from sustainable tourism activities to environmental education practices and the formulation of public policies aimed at conservation. In addition to supporting environmental and educational managers as well as researchers, the product seeks to raise awareness among the local community and visitors about the cultural, historical, and ecological significance of the Cerrado, contributing to the development of collective environmental awareness and to the strengthening of local and regional sustainable development.
